> Gerakan acting president and Penang Barisan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon:
"Whether Penang Gerakan will restore ties with the state Umno will depend on the outcome of the Umno supreme council meeting today.
"All component parties, including Umno, were satisfied with the decision reached today that they will let the Umno supreme council decide on what action to be taken against Ahmad.
"The discussion was honest and straightforward as all component parties voiced their concern over the incident. We unanimously agreed that Ahmad's act was very unsuitable and we accepted the prime minister, his deputy and other Umno leaders' stand that Ahmad's stand does not reflect the policy and stand of Umno and BN. We are happy that such an incident will not be repeated, as demanded by the prime minister."
Asked what was the punishment demanded by Gerakan on Ahmad, Koh said the type of sanction shall be decided by Umno as the party has promised a stern action.
On whether Ahmad should still be prosecuted, he said many quarters had lodged police reports on this incident, so let the police complete the investigation and decide on the next course of action.
> MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting:
"Such sensitive issues must be handled with extra care. All component parties agreed that the incident was serious and stern action must be taken."
