> Fuel to be cheaper from December

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said he expected the pump price for fuel to be reduced by another 15 sen at the end of November.

This was due to the lower crude oil price, he told reporters at the ministry's family day here today.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced a 15 sen cut in the price of RON97 petrol from RM2.15 to RM2 per litre while RON92 petrol and diesel from RM2.05 to RM1.90.

It was the fifth reduction since June when the government raised the retail price of petrol by 78 sen to RM2.70 and diesel by RM1 to RM2.58 per litre due to the escalating price of crude oil which peaked at US$147 per barrel in July.

Due to fears of global recession, the price has since plunged to around US$50 - Bernama.
